Russia calls emergency meeting of UN Security Council to seek immediate cease-fire in Ukraine

Russia called an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council Monday to introduce a resolution calling for an immediate halt to violence in Ukraine. Russia holds the Security Council presidency in June and Russia's U.N. Mission said the closed consultations will take place at 4 p.m. EDT (2000 GMT). In Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia will seek Security Council action to end weeks of deadly clashes in Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine between government troops and pro-Russian insurgents.
